Activities at Alte Kalköfen Lodge

Alte Kalköfen Lodge offers more than just a place to stay—it’s a gateway to unique Namibian desert experiences. From guided tours of rare Lithops succulents to scenic drives through ancient landscapes, every activity reveals a different side of southern Namibia. Birdwatchers can enjoy dedicated hides; history lovers can explore century-old limestone ovens, and nature enthusiasts can take in sweeping sunrise views or unwind at the solar-lit waterhole, where wildlife gathers at dusk.

Would highly recommend the sundowner tour. One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.

Lithops & Succulents

The Lithoparium offers a fascinating look at Lithops, Namibia’s living stones. Visitors can explore on their own or join a guided tour to learn about these unique plants. Enthusiasts may spend hours studying them, while casual visitors can enjoy a shorter introduction. Tours are flexible and can be booked at reception.

Bird Watching

With two bird hides and a variety of habitats, Alte Kalköfen is a rewarding spot for birdwatching. Guests can quietly observe species like the Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Southern White-faced Owl, and Red-eyed Bulbul from the hides or explore the grounds where birds thrive among the trees and water sources.
